One of the most important religious festivals of Gualaceo, for its beauty and the number of devotees is that of the Patrón Santiago, a small religious image that rests in the Central Church. The central celebration is on July 25, however, throughout the month there are cultural-religious activities.
On July 1 the religious image goes on a pilgrimage through the different parishes. He is the Saint of the peasants, whom they thank daily for the harvests.
The afternoon of the 24th, sheltered by a parade of dances and contradanzas, the image makes its way back to the city to the stadium. There the Battle between Moors and Christians is lived, in honor of the Apostle Santiago.
Danzantes with medieval costumes and dressed soldiers make real the feat and biblical legend of the war between the pagan people (Moors) and Christians. In the sky the rockets burst under the expectation of the people. The next day there is a procession.
