Gualaceo, eastern canton of the province of Azuay, in Ecuador, at a distance of 35 kilometers from the provincial capital Cuenca.
It has a population of 38,587 inhabitants, it is bathed by the Santa Bárbara and San Francisco rivers. Due to the beautiful location of this town, it is called “Jardín Azuayo”. Due to its location, it is a communications hub towards the Ecuadorian East. Its main activities are agriculture, crafts and tourism. The official party is celebrated on June 25.
The making of footwear and other leather work, as well as the manufacture of cloths are the typical crafts of the place. Among the delicacies that are typical of Gualaceo is the traditional rosero, among others. The commercial movement takes effect on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The best time to visit Gualaceo is during its anniversary celebrations of canonization in the month of June, the carnival festival of the river, the celebration of Santiago Apostle in the month of July, or during the Festival of Durazno in the month of March.
