Gualaceo is the azuaya city that best embodies the celebration of the carnival. The streets and banks of the Santa Bárbara River merge to the rhythm of music, concerts, parties, traditional games (water, flour, carioca, color …), wet t-shirt competitions, sports competitions, gastronomic festivals and the election of the Queen of Carnival.
The name “Carnaval de Río Gualaceo” was institutionalized in this tradition. In the four days, locals and visitors get infected with this popular-cultural tradition. The party draws crowds. Orchestras and artists set the beat and the joy of celebration.
The party is lit on Friday with the comparsas that invites tourists to join the party. The batucadas, the groups of dancers and disguises come out with their autochthonous and modern choreographies. The banks of Santa Bárbara are full of families who come to have fun.
